the ramblings of a 40 something first time mum, making notes about things like I'm the first person this has ever happened to.
About
The Miss Holly blog was started not long after she was born. I was being bombarded with emails and I couldn't keep up with them, so started the blog to log it, realised I blogged more than wrote in my baby book, and here we all are.
Back in the 1980s I started a fanzine, and kept it going for a while. It was fun, we met and hung out with lots of bands and I met lots of nice people when I sold it at gigs. I stopped in 1990 when it became too much like hard work when I wanted to just enjoy myself. I also realised I don't write well enough to be a music journalist, so let that dream die.
Fast forward a few years and now I'm a blogger, starting at my main site Sweetfoolthemouth which I've had since 2002.
There's other places too - a sporadic public update over at http://fat-mum.livejournal.com/ from when I was pregnant (most posts are private for only me to see as a pregnancy diary), I blog about knitting over at http://www.hookyknitters.tk occasionally and there's a few others.
I like to do several things at the same time, and occasionally get them finished - I seem to work better that way than doing one at a time, I've no idea why.
In the rest of my spare time I've got Mum Friendly (which is kind of me re-living my fanzine dream but writing up things which I come across now I'm a parent) which is growing steadily and nicely and I've a selection of photos of my mum and dad over here when they were 1960's scooter kids (this site was the one my dad bought right before he died, and it seemed like a fitting tribute to him).
I work part time for a group of record labels and have for almost thirteen years now, and have been working in music since 1992 at various other companies. I've been married to Shaun since 2003, we live mid-way between Croydon and Sutton. I'd like to say how all the cool bands I work with influence our lives, but actually our lives are all about Peppa Pig, Mio Mau, The Wiggles, Justin Fletcher, Yo Gabba Gabba!, Dora the Explorer and more. It has been noted that Holly seems to enjoy listening to a lot of mummy's favourites (who all have wildly inappropriate names like F*cked Up, The New Pornographers and so on) so we'll tackle that one when we get to it.
Oh and I'm also a Phoenix Trader. Do buy some cards if you feel like it.
My proudest mummy moment so far in 2012 is Holly announcing she likes "Tottenham Hotspur" when asked who her football team are. We're working on words like "Rafa Van Der Vaart" and "Luka Modric" - but one step at a time for now, and we'll leave "Harry Redknapp" just in case he leaves...
So yes, hello. We're a music and football loving family, and we're sharing bits of it here. Thanks for reading.
